"WELCOME TO THE BATES MOTEL,FIRST YOU DREAM THEN YOU DIE"
SEASON 01 EPISODE 01
The Bates Motel is the new offering from A&E. The Network decided to skip a Pilot and commissioned from the get go a first season of 10 Episodes, indication that the show is good and that many surprises are on the horizon.
The Pedrigree is of the best ones. created and produced by Anthony Cipriano, Kerry Ehrin (Friday day Night Lights) and Carlton Cruse of Lost fame and a budget of 10 Million dollars, good things should be on the horizon.
The Network might have picked up a winning horse even dough it's too early to tell, I usually wait until Episode 3 or 4 to formulate a full on judgement, just to be safe. After all there is only so much you can do with a human body, and once you've burned it, chopped it into pieces, dismembered or torn it apart, chances are the bore starts to set in.
As Always, Numbers don't lie, and the numbers on this one are very encouraging indeed.
On Opening Night, Monday, March 18th, a record of sorts for A&E was already set, the show racked up to 4.6 millon viewers aacross the board and very good reviews so far. Not Shabby.
Filmed in Aldergrove, British Columbia (Canada), 56 Kilometres east of Vancouver, Population 12,000. The series is a Prequel with a modern day spin of the late and great Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" and follows a young Norman Bates played by Freddie Highmore and his manipulative, overbearing, clingy mother Norma Luise Bates played by a spectacularly edgy and gorgeous Vera Farmiga.
As far as the main cast goes; Camden Town's Boy Freddie Highmore,of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Spiderwick Chronicles fame is a perfect fit for a young and awkward Norman Bates and while evoking at times the Great Anthony Hopkins he does't try to emulate him but instead plays his own version of crazy in the making and this can only be a good thing.
Academy Award Nominee Vera Farminga is Hypnotic to say the least, as Norma Luise Bates. with her fair complexion, slender frame, Nordic looks and piercing ice cold blue eyes, she brings perfectly to life the über doting and emotionally frail and resilient mother with a darker than dark side and secrets to match, I expect lots of Crazy from her and hopefully a fair amount of unexpected twists from the show, we'll see.
